The atmosphere at Shiori is nothing short of charming. With a traditional Japanese aesthetic that blends modern elegance and rustic elements, the ambiance is perfect for both intimate dinners and casual gatherings. Upon entering, you’re greeted by a calm, welcoming atmosphere that sets the stage for a memorable meal. The space is designed with a focus on comfort, offering a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.

The menu at Shiori reflects the beauty of Japanese cuisine with a modern twist. Each dish is carefully crafted with fresh, locally sourced ingredients, ensuring that every bite delivers a taste of authentic Japanese flavors. One of the standout features of the restaurant is its seasonal menu, which changes regularly to showcase the best produce available. The skilled chefs at Shiori are known for their meticulous attention to detail and commitment to presenting dishes that not only taste incredible but also look like works of art.

One of the best-loved offerings on the menu is the traditional kaiseki meal. Kaiseki is a multi-course dining experience that highlights seasonal ingredients, and Shiori does it exceptionally well. The meal is carefully curated to create a balance of flavors, textures, and colors, making it a feast for the senses. From delicate sashimi to hearty soups and grilled meats, each course tells a story of the season’s bounty. If you’re visiting in the spring, you might find dishes featuring fresh bamboo shoots, while in the autumn, flavors of mushrooms and chestnuts dominate the menu.

Beyond the kaiseki, Shiori also offers a variety of à la carte options. For those who prefer a more personalized dining experience, the restaurant serves dishes that can be enjoyed individually or shared among friends. The tempura, for example, is light and crispy, providing a perfect contrast to the more delicate flavors of sashimi and soups.

The service at Shiori is attentive and warm. The staff go out of their way to ensure that each guest feels welcome, offering helpful suggestions and providing details about the dishes. They’re knowledgeable about the menu and happy to answer any questions you might have, whether it’s about the ingredients or the preparation methods. This attention to customer satisfaction adds to the overall experience, making it feel like more than just a meal but a moment of true hospitality.

While the food and service at Shiori are exceptional, the location itself adds another layer to the experience. Nikko is a city known for its temples, natural beauty, and historical significance, and Shiori is ideally situated for those looking to explore the area after their meal. The restaurant’s proximity to key landmarks such as the Nikko Toshogu Shrine makes it a great stop during a day of sightseeing. After indulging in a delicious meal, you can stroll through the streets of Nikko and enjoy its picturesque surroundings.

If you’re planning a visit, it’s worth noting that Shiori has received rave reviews from both locals and tourists. Visitors often commend the restaurant for its serene ambiance, delectable food, and exceptional service. Many have also highlighted the authenticity of the dishes, which capture the essence of traditional Japanese dining while incorporating modern techniques. For those looking to experience the true flavors of Japan in a peaceful setting, Shiori is the place to be.

In summary, Shiori stands out as a top-tier dining destination in Nikko, offering a perfect blend of quality, ambiance, and service. Whether you're in the mood for an elaborate kaiseki meal or a simple yet exquisite dish from the à la carte menu, you’re sure to be impressed by the culinary artistry on display. With its prime location, warm hospitality, and attention to detail, Shiori is an experience you won’t soon forget.

We saw the set menu then entered the restaurant right away without any expectation, but turns out it’s quite extraordinary especially the yuba and the tofu soup. The set menu we chose wasn’t expensive but we’re surprised with the dish variants on the set menu. Very delicious! Also nice service, but maybe entering the restaurant in opening hour is a good decision, not sure about the normal queue time.

This is one of the best meals I've had in Japan. A small shop run by a small team so it's very limited how many customers they can serve in a day because their ingredients might run out. There are 4 set course you can choose from. We opted for the the most expensive one at just under ¥4000. You really get your bang for buck so by the end of the meal, we were stuffed. Everything tasted fresh, delicious and authentic. On top of that, the service was amazing. Shun Kamiyoshihara-San our server or rather the only server, kept running around and bringing our dishes and topping up our water. He made the experience that much better. We wish we could tip him but can't cos Japanese culture. For foreigners, the menus have English and Shun-san speaks a little English. Recommend making a reservation before coming as I said the number customers they can serve per day is limited.

I ordered the miyabi set, which introduces the Nikko's traditional dish, yuba, as well as local vegetables, fish and grain. Added on the 3 set sake comprising Nikko's sake. Food: Very good, very oriental. Good mix of light-tasting yuba coupled with a robust entree of chicken and fish. I personally enjoyed the grilled fish and sashimi, although the chicken is great too. Advice: The miyabi set will ensure that you will leave with full stomach. If u just want to try the yuba dishes, the en set should suffice. Service: Exceptional service despite low manpower. Dishes are served one at a time and staff took the effort to explain the dish with limited English. English menu available, lunch sets available for dinner. However, you have to make reservations or come at opening time, as they only accept a limited number of guests. Card and cash OK. Atmosphere: It is a posh Omakase experience that I would charge at least 3 times as much in my country. Overall, I enjoyed the experience and would definitely recommend it if you stay in Nikko.

The best meal we've had in Nikko in 2 days. The restaurant is small and had a waiting list outside for lunch. For dinner, you need to call to make reservations in advance. We went there for lunch and waited for almost 1 hr because there was a big group of 10-12 people that occupied more than half of the restaurant. Food was almost like a mini kaiseki. They served you one thing at a time. I especially liked the yuba soup, so flavorful and delicate. The grilled eel was excellent too. Strongly recommend this restaurant.

A wonderful and tasty experience. The staff were so polite and helpful. They spoke to us in English and Japanese to help us understand the menu and everything that was brought out. I grew up with tofu skin as a normal part of my diet so this was a nice throwback to my youth. My husband is not used to this Japanese style of eating so was not as impressed with the vegetables, fish, and starch. He’s more of a meat man so I gave him all the meat from my Miyabi set and took all the non-meat items from his Tsune set. Overall, this has been a great experience. They have parking and English menu along with English speaking staff.

An incredible meal in a small space. Four set choices with tofu skin in different preparations served with perfectly prepared local vegetables. Staff gives explanations and is very helpful. Highly recommend eating here.

Absolutely delicious, the best meal I had during my latest trip to Japan It was so incredibly tasty that my eyes widened in delight, even though my brow furrowed slightly in concentration. Not expensive at all when comparing to the quality.
